D. Lucille Avey, 78, of 9394 Tomstown Road, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, at Waynesboro Hospital.
Born Sept. 1, 1921, in Tomstown, she was the daughter of the late Harvey G. and Hazel S. Blubaugh Stoops.
Her husband, Charles W. Avey, died Feb. 24, 1990. They were married July 2, 1938.
She attended Quincy (Pa.) High School.
She had been employed at Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, Pa.; as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, and at Hess Manufacturing in Quincy. She was a housekeeper for local families, retiring in 1996.
She was a member of Fairview Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Waynesboro, the Young Women's Relief Society and the Primary Organization.
She was a member of Franklin County Republican Committee, and was a committee member for Boy Scout Troop 31, Waynesboro.
She is survived by a daughter, Nancy L. Poper of Hagerstown; five sons, Barrie W. Avey, Charles R. Avey, Thomas B. Avey, Jeffry L. Avey and Robert A. Avey, all of Waynesboro; three sisters, Audrey Waltz of Smithsburg, Carol Sherwood of Wellsboro, Pa., and Susan Biesecker of Waynesboro; two brothers, Ted Stoops of Waynesboro, and L. Ronald Stoops of Gaithersburg, Md.; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, uncles and aunts.
She was preceded in death by a son, Terry C. Avey, in 1993.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Fairview Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 11887 Mentzer Gap Road, Waynesboro. Bishop Gary A. Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, Quincy.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro; and one hour prior to the service at the church.
