John Orville Stone Jr., 83, went to join his wife with the Lord on June 21, 2009, passing peacefully at his home in Langell Valley.
He was born on Dec. 3, 1925, in LaClede, Linn County, Mo., to John Orville and Virginia Kathleen Stone.
They moved to Sacramento, Calif., when he was 17 years old. He met his beloved wife of 56 years, Ursula, in Roseville, Calif.
John served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in several places in the world. They moved to Oregon in 1959 and settled in the Bonanza area in 1961.
As a carpenter, he worked on many of the buildings in and around Klamath Falls and was a general contractor for a few years.
John's hobbies were numerous. They raised enough animals for a zoo, grew enough plants to have a public garden (and gave plants generously to the local community) and hauled enough rocks to dam up Lost River. Together their main passions were iris plants, rock hounding, camping, fishing, hunting and
A longtime member of the Rock & Arrow Club, John was most happy with a pick ax and shovel and his latest rock specimen.
He was generous with his time and with his stories - you never knew if it was a tall tale or if it really happened. He had a full and exciting life with very few regrets.
He is survived by his daughter Shirley Stone of Oregon; his granddaughter and her husband, Jennifer and Chris Zimmerlee of Tennessee; two brothers, Earl Stone of Arkansas and Bill Stone of California; numerous nieces and nephews; and Troubles, his appropriately named tubby dachshund.
He will be laid to rest at the Bonanza Cemetery. There will be no services at his request.
John asks to be remembered joyfully and, instead of flowers, requests donations to the Klamath County Humane Society to help build its new shelter or to High Desert Hospice.
