Born in Chickasha, Indian Territory, Mary Mae Betzer spent most of her life in Oklahoma, and passed away in Albuquerque, New Mexico on September 26, 2001. She was devoted to her family and lived her life with strength, energy, and enjoyment. Following graduation from Oklahoma City Central High School as salutatorian of her class, she joined an older sister to teach school in the oil boomtowns of Osage County. Over a period of 45 years, she taught school at the grade school and junior high school level throughout Oklahoma and Texas. Among her particular interests were playing bridge, playing golf, ballroom dancing, movies, traveling, and having a good time. In her later years, she spent a decade caring for one of her beloved sisters. She was a member of a Disciples of Christ Christian Church throughout her life wherever she lived. She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Stanley I. Betzer; a brother, Francis Stone; and two sisters Ruth Eloise Stroup and Lee Dona Dunham. She is survived by a sister, Leila Holladay of Oklahoma City; her son Stanley I. Betzer, Jr., of Albuquerque and his wife, Gay; her daughter Carmen Rogers of Amarillo and her husband, Derrell; two grandsons and four beautiful great-grandchildren.
