Two More Tornado Victims

Two more deaths over the weekend brought the death toll of the Udall tornado to 72, with the five King children killed at Oxford the same day, tornado death toll for the area is now 77. Duplications on the early lists of victims lowered the previous figures.

New deaths are those of Mrs. Frances Jeffries, 28, wife of Malcolm Jeffries; and Harold T. (Dick) Stone, 63. Mrs. Jeffries died at Wesley Hospital in Wichita about 1 a.m. Sunday and Mr. Stone died at 2:05 a.m. Sunday at Newton Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Jeffries was born Jan. 21, 1927 at Montreal, Mo. Surviving besides her husband are a daughter, Betty Jean, at home, two sons, Jackie Lee and Donnie Mitchell, both of the home; her mother, Mrs. Anna Frederick, Camdenton, Mo. A daughter, Katherine, 4, was also a victim of the tornado.

Harold T. Stone
Harold T. Stone was born July 23, 1891, in Cowley County, the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Stone. With the exception of five years in California and one year in Oklahoma he had spent all his life in Cowley County. He was married Aug. 26, 1916 to Mary Jane Brown, who lost her life in the Udall tornado.

He was a former farmer and a oil field worker and was employed by the Watson Drilling Co. He was a member of the Oxford Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include a son, Robert T. of Yukon, Okla.; a daughter, Mrs. Robert Roley of Winfield: a brother, Frank D. of Wichita; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Stone will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Winfield First Christian Church with Rev. Wayne Karlowski of Wichita officiating. Burial will be in Akron cemetery with Morris Funeral home in charge.

Funeral services for Mrs. Jeffries will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Baptist church at Montreal with burial in Montreal. Flanagan mortuary of Wichita is in charge of arrangements.
