Mrs. Effie Stone, 87, Madrid widow of George M. Stone, died Thursday evening, Aug. 21, 1969 in Highland Nursing Home, where She had been a patient since May. Mrs. Stone broke Her hip on Palm Sunday, when coming out of church services and has been in declining health since. She was first hospitalized for a month in Massena Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:00, in the Mann Funeral Home, Madrid, with the Rev. John Perl, pastor of Madrid Protestant Church, officating. Burial was made in Louisville Cemetery.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Theodore (Iris) Hall of Massena and Mrs. Cornelius (Frances) Toohey of Massena; two sons, Walter, at home and George of Jordon; two brothers, Sydney Richards, Gouverneur and Hiram Richards of New Hampshire; two sisters, Mrs. Arthur (Jessie) Chase of Norwood and Mrs. Matie Ramsey of South Colton; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was born Sept. 5, 1881, a daughter of Warner and Melinda (Richards) Richards. On Aug. 11, 1908, She was married in Oakland, CA. to George M. Stone. The couple lived in San Francisco, while Mr. Stone was employed by the West Coast Insurance Company.

In 1917, They moved to the family farm on St. Lawrence River, where They resided until the Seaway Development purchased Their farm in 1955 and They purchased a home in Madrid. Mrs. Stone was a member of the First Congregational Church in Madrid and past member of Massena Grange.
