Melva Lee Ellis, 85, of Midwest City OK, died November 7, 2011, in Oklahoma City OK. She was born April 22, 1926, in Oklahoma City to Curtis and Pearl Stone. Melva grew up in Enid OK. She married in 1950 and was a military spouse for 12 years. In 1962 she moved to Midwest City where she lived until her husband Bill retired from Tinker Air Force Base and moved her to Okemah OK. She became an RN after her children were grown, fulfilling her early dreams by working at St. Anthony, Midwest Regional, and Creek Nation Hospitals. She was an accomplished seamstress, sewing for her family and especially her granddaughters. She was a member of the Del City Lodge and was a past Worthy Matron, and longtime member of Eastern Star. She was a member of St. Matthew UMC of Midwest City and was active in the morning prayer group, the United Methodist Women, Friendship Circle, and the Pathfinders Sunday School class. She was one of the first members of the new Bell Choir at St. Matthew and remembered that time with laughter. She returned to Midwest City in 2003 where she lived until her passing.
Melva was preceded in death by her true love, William N. Ellis, Jr.; parents; brother Jerome Franklin Stone; grandson Justin Ellis; sister-in-law Helen; and brother-in-law John Lee, Sr.
She is survived by her sons William N. Ellis III and wife Donna of Pensacola FL, Rod T. Ellis of Dripping Springs TX, and Tom Ellis and wife Kathy of Midwest City OK; brother Richard Stone and wife Mary of Oklahoma City; and sister Roberta Lee of Ponca City OK; nephews Mike Stone, John Lee and wife Linda, David Lee and wife Teresa; her niece and namesake Debbie Sue Owens; many great-nephews and great-nieces; grandchildren Tamara Dant and husband David of Bossier City LA, Karren Brown of Midwest City, Tara Witthoeft of Bossier City, Kristina MacNair and husband Mitchel of Katy TX, Joanna Parra and husband Manuel of Lockhart TX, Melissa Barnes and husband Tommy of McLoud OK, Dr. Brian and Becka Ellis of Norman OK, and Aaron Ellis of Dripping Springs; great-grandchildren Erin and Savanna Witthoeft, Sarah and Christopher Dant, Kaitlyn and Kylie MacNair, Mckenna Parra, Corie and Megan Barnes, Maddie and Mason Ellis.
She loved her family, loved her God, and delighted in her great grandchildren. She will be missed by her church family at St. Matthew and also in Okemah at St. Paul's where she had been a member for 20 years. Melva is now in the loving arms of her Savior.
