Birth: Nov. 1, 1840
Stanstead
Quebec, Canada
Death: Aug. 25, 1934
Los Angeles
Los Angeles County
California, USA

According to family oral tradition Lovisa attended McGill University and was one of the first women in Canada to study Pharmacy. She and her husband opened a store and pharmacy in either Beebe or the village of Stanstead, Quebec, the latter of which she ran. She and her husband wintered regularly at a house they owned in Los Angeles, CA, until her husband Henry died in 1894. By 1901 she had moved to Los Angeles permanently and remained there until her death. She was remembered for always carrying her black pharmacy bag to any family gathering and keeping an ear cocked for sniffles to attend to. She was a merry widow, dressed in black for the last 40 years of her life but regularly ordering racy (and often banned) French novels to be sent to her in an unmarked trunk. It's not clear why her grave was left unmarked for so long but upon discovering this, her great-grandson John Drew Malcomson provided a stone in 2013.
