Billie Stone passed away peacefully on Tuesday, 16 Feb 2010 at Pathways Hospice Critical Unit at the McKee Medical Center in Loveland, CO on her birthday. She was born 16 Feb 1919 in Grand Rapids, MI.
In 1937, Billie was the Valedictorian for her graduating class at Newaygo High School in Newaygo, MI. She earned her Registered Nursing degree from the Butterworth Hospital School of Nursing in Grand Rapids, MI in 1940.
She married W. J. "Bill" Stone on 31 Dec 1941. Bill was soon after drafted into the Army and served for the entirety of WWII. Daughter Patricia "Pat" was born in Muskegon, MI in 1942 and daughter Kathryn "Kit" was born in Hopkinsville, KY in 1944. At the end of the war, Bill was stationed in California, so Billie and girls joined him there. Bilie lived and worked in Ridgecrest, CA from 1962 until 2004, when Bill passed away; she then moved to Fort Collins, CO where she lived with her daughter and son-in-law.
Billie worked as a Registered Nurse for 40 years doing both hospital and office nursing until retirement from the Ridgecest Medical Center in 1984.
She was passionate about her two hobbies, gardening and postmark collecting. She grew over 300 varieties of bearded iris in her garden in Ridgecrest and won many blue ribbons at flower shows. She began collecting postmarks in 1943 and was active in the state and national Postmark Collector's Club, holding several offices. At the national convention in Waco, TX in July 2009, she was named Queen of the Convention.
Billie was preceded in death by husband, Bill and daughter Pat.
