Everett Franklin Stone, 87, of 113 Main Street, Williamstown, died Friday, September 16, 2011 at Sweetbrook Care Center.

He was born in Williamstown on October 27, 1923. Everett is the son of Edward Canedy and Carrie Alderman. He was adopted by Elmer and Bessie (Elwell) Stone. He graduated from Williamstown High School in 1941.

Everett was a veteran of World War II and served in the Navy. In 1966, he re-joined the Navy Reserves and served until December 1983 for a combined twenty years of service.

Everett was last employed by John Hancock Insurance Co. in Boston for about twenty years. He resided in Framingham and then moved to Sunderland, where he worked for the town and at UMass-Amherst. He returned to Williamstown in 1999. He attended St. John's Episcopal Church in North Adams.

Everett was a member of the National Associates of Stationary Steam Engineers. He was also a member of the VFW, the Williamstown American Legion, and a life member of the Williamstown Grange. He enjoyed gardening.

His wife, Phyllis (Walker) Stone, died June 20, 2007. They were married on October 11, 1947.

Survivors include three daughters, Brenda G. Carroll of Oxford, Sheree N. Saunders of Rochester, New Hampshire, and Marilee P. Swindell of Temple, New Hampshire; two sons, Ronald E. Stone of Brattleboro, Vermont and Gary A. Stone of Medford; twelve grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A sister, Dorothy Blake, is deceased.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sherman Burbank Memorial Chapel in Williamstown.
Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery.
Calling hours at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS WEST CHAPEL, 521 West Main Street, North Adams, will be held on Wednesday from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
