John G. Stone was the son of Louisville native, Israel G. Stone and the grandson of early Louisville settlers, Nathan and Eunice (Priest) Stone, who are buried at the Louisville Cemetery. He was married in 1872 in Louisville Landing, St. Lawrence Co., New York to Mary Matthews, daughter of Patrick and Mary Matthews. John and Mary were buried in the new section of the Louisville Cemetery.

Louisville, June 1~ John G. Stone, a much respected citizen, died at His home on the St. Lawrence River Road, early Sunday morning, His death occurring in the same house in which He was born 69 years ago, the 18th of this month. He had been in ill health for the past three years, suffering from hardening of the arteries, but most of the time able to drive about and enjoy light work on His farm.

In 1872, He married Miss Mary Elizabeth Matthews of this town. He was a successful farmer and took an interest in town affairs and was a man who found the greatest joy of life in HIs home and was naturally a devoted husband and father, even caring for the welfare of His family. For 20 years He has been a member and a faithful worker in the M.E. Church of this place and always contributed freely to its cause. He was truly a spiritual life, marked by a quiet loyalty to the Christ He loved and believed in. Even through the trying period of His feebleness, He seemed to submit His whole being to the perfect will of the Father and bore His afflictions patiently.

Besides a devoted wife, He leaves to mourn His loss four sons, William of Chicago, George of San Francisco, Roy of Oswego and Fred of this place, who lived with His father. The funeral will be conducted Tuesday in the M.E. Church, with His pastor, Rev. N. J. O'Brien, will officiate.
