DEATH OF MRS. JAMES MATTHEWS, AFTER A SHORT ILLNESS

Louisville Landing~ Christiann Stone, wife of James Matthews, died at Her home in this place, last Thursday morning at ten o'clock, after a final illness of only a week. Her family were all present at the end. Mrs. Matthews has been in poor health for some years, but a week ago was taken with an attack of inflammation of the bowels, which complicated with other troubles, ended fatally.

The funeral was held from Her late home on Saturday and was largely attended. Rev. W.E. Lang of the M.E. church, of which the deceased was a member, officiated, assisted by Rev. Wallace Buttrick, of Albany.

Mrs. Matthews was born in Louisville in October 1842 and that town has always been Her home. She was married to James Matthews, January 25, 1865 and They have had six children, only two of whom have survived, four having died in childhood. She is survived by a devoted husband, one daughter, Mrs. C.W. Hardendorf, of Madrid and one son, George of Massena. She was a woman of strong christian character, devoted to Her home and family and Her loss will be deeply felt.

Mrs. James Matthews, a lifelong resident of Louisville, died at Her home at Louisville Landing, July 4th of inflammation of the bowels. Mrs. Matthews' maiden name was Stone. She was a consistent member of the M.E. church and in Her death, the community and church have met with a deep loss. The surviving family members are Her husband, James, one daughter, Mrs. Charles (Eva) Hardendorf of Madrid and one son, George, who resides in Massena.
