Anchorage resident Conrad Stoltz, 67, a retired construction worker, died Dec. 10 at home following a lengthy illness. A memorial service was held at Evergreen Memorial Chapel, Eighth Avenue and E Street, with C.L. Rayburn officiating. A toast to Mr. Stoltz followed at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall, 1200 W. 33rd Ave. Burial will be in Angelus Memorial Park in the spring.
Mr. Stoltz was born Sept. 13, 1923, in Solen, N.D. He married Celestine Thomas in 1943. He had worked as a heavy-equipment operator in the construction business for several years. The Stoltz family moved to Alaska in 1964, and Mr. Stoltz became an active member of Amvets, American Legion, Jack Henry Post No. 1, Moose Lodge No. 1534 and VFW Post 1683. He enjoyed reading Louis Lamour and Zane Grey novels, listening to country music and watching westerns on television, but his greatest enjoyment came from his family and friends, according to his family. His wife, Sally, died last year, and his son, Robert, died in 1988.
Mr. Stoltz is survived by his daughter, Corliss of Anchorage, and many relatives in the Lower 48.
