Margaret E. Winkelman, 81, of Union, Crystal Lake and Woodstock, died Monday, Oct 29, 2001, at Northwoods Care Centre in Belvidere. She was born Jan 1, 1920 in Port Edwards, Wis., to M. Clayton and Adela (Schlenvogt) Stoddard. The family moved to Crystal Lake in 1925, where Mrs. Winkelman attended Crystal Lake schools. She married Victor M. Winkelman on June 7, 1942, in Crystal Lake. They lived in the Marengo area and moved to Union in 1951, where they raised their family. They moved to Crystal Lake in 1967, and Mrs. Winkelman moved to Woodstock in 1987 after the death of her husband. While in Union, she was active in the St. John's United Church of Christ and the American Legion Women's Auxiliary. She worked at Richco Plastics from 1974 until her retirement in 1990. Survivors include two children, Wayne (Sharon) Winkelman of Crystal Lake and Peggy (David) Bengston of Bull Valley; five grandchildren, Marty (Kim) Winkelman of Woodstock, Ross (Melissa) Winkelman of Highland Ranch, Col, Alison (Coby) Maxwell of Indianapolis, Jennifer (Courtney) Haas of Marengo and Amanda Bengston of Chicago; a great-grandson, Hunter Maxwell; two brothers, Earl (Barb) Stoddard of Tomahawk, Wis., and Chuck (Anita) Stoddard of Crystal Lake; two sisters, Ella Mae (Lloyd) Robertson of Crystal Lake and Irma (Tom) Ferenc of Oregon, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1974; a son, Philip in 1967; her parents; a sister, Lucille (Jack) Pierce; two brothers, Laurin (Elsie) Stoddard and Augie (Angie) Stoddard; and a niece, Marcia Pierce. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at St. John's United Church of Christ in Union. Interment will be at the Union Cemetery in Union. Memorials may be made in her name to the Alzheimer's Association, 919 N. Michigan Ave., Suite 1100, Chicago, Ill. 60611.
