HOWARD MALCOME STITT
Long an active member of Calvary Baptist church, died at 10.35 o'clock last night at his home, Ashville, R.D. No. 1, on the Buckhorn road, after an extended illness. Mr. Stitt was a member of the Calvary Baptist church and Men's Sunday school class for many years, serving the church as a deacon. He retired from the Altoona works as a machinist in December, 1936, after forty-three years' service. Mr. Stitt was born at Claysburg on Jan. 15, 1875, a son of Riley and Hannah (Shank) Stitt, but had resided in Altoona from the age of 3 years until June of this year when he moved to Ashville. For many years he had resided at 4223 Beale avenue. Mr. Stitt was thrice married, his first wife having been Myrtle Walters. To that marriage are the following surviving children: George W. of South Lakemont, Warren E. of Carson valley, Mrs. Marian Bigelow, Mrs. Winifred Moore and Mrs. Florence Schweitzer, all of the city, and Miss Ella Stitt of Hershey. Nine grandchildren also survive, the oldest of whom, Clair E. Stitt, is an engineer cadet in the United States army at Muncie, Ind., and now home on furlough. His second wife was Jean McLaughlin. Surviving are his third wife, Mrs. Ellen (Kratzer) Stitt, and the following brothers and sisters: Harry M. of the city, Charles M. of State College, John D. of Avalon, Clarence M. and Mrs. Mary Stewart of Altadena, Calif., Joseph F. of Cuyahoga Falls, O., and Mrs. Anna Wakefoose of Philadelphia. STITT--Funeral services for Howard Malcome Stitt of Ashville and Altoona will be held at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Calvary Baptist church by Rev. R.H. Stoll and Rev. W.S. Long. Interment in Rose Hill cemetery. Friends may call at the Lafferty funeral home after 7 o'clock this evening.
