Mrs. Rosabelle S. Gridley

Mrs. Rosabelle S. Gridely, aged 81 of Westville died October 15 in a Binghamton hospital after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Gridley was born February 15, 1877 in Warsaw, a daughter of Reuben and Isabelle (Hayes) Stiles. She was married in Corning on November 29, 1905 to the Rev. James D. Gridley who died May 3, 1938 in Delhi. The Rev. and Mrs. Gridley were the first superintendent and matron of the Upstate Baptist Home for Children at Milford Center. The Rev. Gridley had served as pastor of the Evangelical Churches at Bleecker and Stone Arabia and of the Baptist Churches at Westville, Middlefield, Roseboom, Mt. Vision, Stamford, Maine, and Whitney Point. During each of her husband's pastorates Mrs. Gridley was very active in all forms of church work.
Mrs. Gridley was long active in WCTU work and was president for several years of the Westville WCTU Union and was active in the Otsego County WCTU Untion. She was a member of Westville Baptist Church.
Surviving are a foster son, Frederick C. Havens of Middlefield and three grandchildren Charles Havens and Candace Havens of Middlefield and Sonya Havens of Utica.
Funeral services were held October 18 in the Bookout Funeral Home, Oneonta. The Rev. Walter A. Miller, pastor of Hartwick Baptist Church officiated. Burial was made in the Westville Cemetery.
