As the son of an Air Force officer, Doug spent his youth in Taiwan, Germany and throughout the U.S. He matriculated at Davidson College and earned his MS from UCLA. He then went on to become a successful businessman and among many accolades, was honored by INC. Magazine as National Entrepreneur of the Year in 1992 after founding Quantum Health Resources.
Doug moved his business headquarters from Orange County to Indianapolis and married the love of his life, Kim Smith Stickney in 1991. He became a loving stepfather to Bobby and Christopher Mehl and a devoted father to Elizabeth and Andrew.
Doug was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed all facets of competition. He approached everything in his life with the same amazing positivity and energy. He has always been admired and appreciated for his intelligence, generosity and love of family. To know Doug was to love him, and all will miss his enthusiasm for life and joy of being. After his initial diagnosis through his death, Doug truly modeled for all of us, how to live.
Doug is survived by his loving wife Kim, his beloved children Elizabeth and Andrew Stickney, and step-sons Bobby Mehl and Christopher (Elie) Mehl. He is also survived by his father and step-mother, Hank and Beverly Stickney, sister Dr. Sondra (Rev. Jim) Mericle, and brother Ken (Tracy) Stickney, his parents-in-law Chuck and Marian Marlowe, and brother and sisters-in-law Kevin (Laura) Smith, Kathy (Donn) Detzler and Karen (Bill) Elliott, as well as his many adoring nieces and nephews.
