Laura Ann Stickney was born in 1823 and died at the home of her son, L. A. Andrews near Jordans Grove, Iowa in 1910 at the age of 86 years, 10 months, and 20 days. She came to Iowa with her husband in the year 1865 and settled for a time in Waubeek. Some two years later they moved to the farm near Jordans Grove, where they lived and toiled together until September 1883. Then they moved back again to the village of Waubeek and in the year 1899, her husband died. Mrs. Andrews resided in Waubeek for several years. Her health at last began to fail, and her son thought best to take her to his own home where she was well cared for until death. She gave her heart to God in early childhood and at the age of 13 joined the Methodist Episcopal Church and remained a consistent member. She was a class leader for over fifty years. She was loved and respected for her sterling excellence and worth. Her sufferings were borne in spirit of faith and heroism that mocked the aid of priase. She was earnest and constant in her religious life and always spoke with intense fervor of her Christian experience and her present and eternal hope. She was a firm believer in prayer and knew well how to get hold of God. The work of the church was always upon her heart. Her happy disposition and charming manner endeared her to all. Of her means she gave generously. As a neighbor and friend she was kind and practical. Funeral services were conducted at the Jordan's Grove Baptist Church by three pastors.
Laura penned the following in her niece's autograph book:
"To my dear niece Anna:-
The keystone of the mind, to give thy thoughts solidity
To bind them as in an arch, to find them as the world in its
sphere. To to learn from the book of the Lord, to drink from
the well of his wisdom. Who can condense the sun,
or analyse the fulness of the Bible?" Laura Ann Andrews
