Martha Lou Stewart Elsbury Atterbury, 86, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 13, 2011.
She was born on March 8, 1925, in Monroe County to John and Oleta (Holohan) Stewart.
Martha Lou married Aaron Edward Elsbury of Madison on May 25, 1942. To this union four children were born. After Aaron's death in 1962, she married James Wayne Atterbury on July 7, 1967, and became a mother to his three children also.
Mrs. Atterbury was a member of Pleasant Green Baptist Church, Women's Missionary Society and Madison Eastern Star chapter. She worked for many years in the grocery retail market both in Madison and Paris. She was a woman so strong in her faith, always willing to lend a helping hand, kind hearted and a role model we all hope to be like, not to mention the best cook ever.
Martha Lou was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Aaron Elsbury and Wayne Atterbury; a brother, Tommy Stewart; a son, Lonnie Dale Elsbury; a daughter by marriage, Jana Atterbury; great-granddaughter, Annaston Elsbury and sister in law, Betty King.
She is survived by 2 sons, one daughter, and one daughter-in-law. Surviving children by marriage include a son, and daughter, a brother-in-law, one niece; 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren also survive.
Services were held at Million-Taylor Funeral Home in Madison with interment at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
