|Death: ||Jul. 18, 2009|
Louise "Lucy" Lockett died Saturday, July 18, 2009 at the age of 94. She loved life, and she lived love. In addition to being a loving and active wife to husband William Robert "Bob" Lockett, and mother to sons William Robert "Billy" Lockett and Charles Louis Lockett, she cared for more than 1,500 children in church schools. She eventually was instrumental in helping administer a preschool program at Eisenhower Road Baptist Church.
Madeline Cleo Stewart was born to Louis Stewart and Alice Morrow Stewart in rural Big Cane, Louisiana, in 1915. She was the baby of the family, after sister Kathryn Stewart Vickers and brother William Morrow Stewart. She was renamed "Louise" for her father Louis following his untimely death when she was three years old. Her mother moved the family to Shreveport, Louisiana, and gave piano lessons to provide for the family. During the difficult economic times of her childhood Louise and her siblings slept in a pantry because her mother rented out all available rooms.
Bob and Louise courted in Shreveport and were married after World War II. After serving in the Army Bob joined the Border Patrol and Louise followed him to El Paso, Marfa, Brownsville, and Houston before settling in San Antonio. Lucy was thrilled to acquire daughters-in-law Nikki Lockett, wife of Bill; Rita Riley Lockett, who died of an aneurysm, and Janeen Lockett, current wife of Charles. Her four grandchildren are Bill and Nikki's daughters Laura Thetford and Leslie Lockett, and Charles' daughter Alissa Lockett, and son Will Lockett. Lucy's two great grandsons are Chase and Colton Thetford. Lucy's extended family includes the Kathy Lou Anderson Price family and the Anita Calkins, Rose Marie Banack, and Debbie Queen families. After her children were grown, Lucy and Bob traveled around the country with friends in motor homes for several years. During her 51 years of membership Lucy enjoyed participating in "XYZ" activities for seniors at Trinity Baptist Church. She and a friend coined the XYZ name in a contest - standing for eXtra Years of Zest. Lucy and family were blessed with full enjoyment of life for nearly all her 94 years. She was a lady "on the go" and seldom missed an opportunity to be with family and friends. She was able to attend a family reunion and visit with beloved family seven days before her final visit to her heavenly father. The efforts of Krysty and Mike Goodwin, Ilene Cordray, Janet Villarreal, Janet Little, Dee Roever, and Sylvia Owens added many blessings and joy to Lucy's last few months.
