Malissa was the daughter of John Correll and Sarah Houpt Correll. She married David James Stewart on November 20, 1872 in Sullivan, Sullivan, Indiana. Children of the couple were Charles Edwin Stewart, Lulu Ella Stewart, Mary Elizabeth Stewart, David Eslie Stewart, Sadie Edith Stewart and Kathryne Stewart.

Mrs Melissa Stewart, 73 years old, a native of Sullivan County and the widow of David Stewart died Sunday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. W. Lovelace. The funeral was held Mon. afternoon at the Provisence M. E. Church in Turman Township and was conducted by the Rev. A. M. Deal of Graysville. She was a member of the Providence Church. Internment was in the Merom Cemetery.
Mrs. Stewart is survived by the following children: C. E. Stewart, Turman Township, David Stewart, Carlisle, Mrs. Bessie Lovelace, Sullivan, Mrs Catherine Kinney, Trimble, Ill., and Mrs. Sadie Alverson, Sidell, Illinois.
