Rev. Stevenson was born at Belleview, present day Washington County, Missouri. He moved to Butler County, Missouri with his parents in 1830. Sometime after his parents died he moved south, and on 24 Nov 1843 he married Sarah Harper Guinn (sometimes spelled Gwin) at Union County, Arkansas. Rev. Stevenson had a famous cousin, the Rev. William Stevenson, the "Riding Preacher" who lived in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana for many years and that may have caused Rev. Robert Stevenson to move there.
Many records show Rev. Stevenson to be born 27 Aug 1815. Rev. Stevenson was a Lay Methodist Minister, serving many of the surrounding churches when the regular ministers were away or sick. He was also postmaster at Summerfield, Claiborne Parish, Lousiana for many years and a full-time farmer.
