Jacob was a native of Clarion Co, PA and settled near Purchase Line in Indiana Co, PA. Jacob was a blacksmith and conducted a shop in Sternertown; he also did some farming. He was married to Rebecca Guiter(spelling in original article). During the Civil war he enlisted in the Union service (Army-Infantry, Co G 67th Reg P. V. rank Pvt)along with his sons William and Albert.
