Nuvere Sterner
Nuvere Sterner was born on November 28, 1918 in Sivas Turkey and was of Armenian decent. Coming to America as a young child provided Nuvere with many fond memories of time spent with her grandmother and uncles who took care of her.
Nuvere's work career was one to be proud of. She was the secretary for the Commanding Officer of Geiger Air Force Base in Spokane, WA before moving to Portland where she began working for First FarWest Insurance. She received high praise and recognition for the support she gave to her steno pool as the company transitioned into the world of technological word processing.
Nuvere had a heart for children. She gave of her time in helping at the Portland Albertina Kerr Center, which partners with the community to help children and adults with disabilities. She was also a devoted volunteer for the SMART program where she read to children who attended her own elementary school, Woodmere Elementary.
Nuvere moved to Eugene to be close to her daughter, Karen Antonini and Karen's husband Jim. She was blessed with 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren: Jim (Eugene) and his daughter Caitie (Fairbanks); Joe, his wife Kim, and their children, Adam and Abigail, (Milwaukie); and Jake (Eugene). Her family was her pride and joy and her favorite topic of conversation.
Nuvere took great pride in her Armenian Heritage and being the Matriarch of her family, Nuvere was always up for playing any kind of board game or cards and her music sustained her. Her feet, hands, and voice were alive with rhythm and song. Many, many people will always think of Nuvere when they hear the song, "Tiny Bubbles". Lives were changed and blessed through her journey! Nuvere translates to gift in Armenian, and she was certainly a gift to many.
On August 27, 2011, Nuvere passed into Heaven, with her family by her side. Her legacy was her devotion, commitment, and unconditional love! Nuvere's family has wonderful memories of the times shared together at the beach and have decided to celebrate her life by taking the same trip down memory lane.
