Mary Pelle (Sterne) Goebel, 95 of Evansville, passed away March 11, 2011 at 3:18 a.m. at the Evansville Protestant Home.
She graduated from Princeton High School with honors and was a member of the National Honor Society. She finished Lockyear Business College and worked for the Baby Shop. She then was executive secretary to Norman A. Shane, president of both Shane Uniform Co. and Shane Manufacturing Co. She was active in Girl Scouting as leader, trainer of leaders, committee chairman, Board President, and was awarded a Life Member. She was a member and past president of Sigma Alpha Sorority, and attended many national conventions, held several offices in chapter BJ P.E.O., member of the first Red Cross Volunteer Nurses' Aid class and served during the War in hospitals as well as an assistant to Public Health Nursing Association, was President of two garden clubs and the council of Garden Clubs including 11 different clubs, chaired and co-chaired operation of Evansville State Hospital greenhouse for more than thirty years, served on Evansville Philharmonic Board of Directors, served on Steering committee for Wesselman Park Nature Center and chaired first bylaws committee, was a member of Bethel United Church of Christ and served as President of the Church Council, and a member of Willard Library Landscape Committee.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Raymond H. Goebel.
