Third child and third daughter: father Samuel Stern and mother Highly Jane Dean.

Married first: 27 August 1867 Mason County, Indiana William Wickel. Two children: 1- Mary Jane (Jennie) Wickel * 10 Feb 1869 Jeffersonville, Indiana. 2- Margaret Wickel *15 Dec 1870 Wyoming Territory.

Divorced William Wickel for desertion effective 5 November 1874 in Salt Lake City.
1870 Census shows Mary Wickel and daughter Jennie living at Fort Thompson, Buffalo County, South Dakota.

Fort Thompson was established as a Federal post in September 1864 by Capt. Nelson Minor, Dakota Cavalry , on the Crow Creek Indian Reservation and it served as the agency headquarters. This post was originally built as a 300' by 400' stockaded two company fort garrisoned by Iowa Volunteers. The stockade was later expanded to 450' by 650'. The post was abandoned on 9 Jun 1867 and troops withdrawn. In 1870 the post became a sub-post of Fort Sully (2) and in 1871 it was turned over to the Crow Creek Agency for use by the reservation. In 1878 the post was dismantled.

Four children: 1- Charlotta Bachert *17 October 1875 Salt Lake City, Utah Territory. 2- Philip Jacob Bachert *10 August 1878 Buffalo, New York. 3- Frederick William Bachert * 28 September 1881 Buffalo, NY. 4-Sadie Cecelia Bachert * 12 July 1887 Buffalo, NY.

1920 US Census Philipp Bachert and Mary Bachert along with Mary's daughter Jennie Wiclel Bird are living at 225 S. 6th Street, Noblesville, Hamilton County, Indiana. Living at 224 S. 6th Street is William Hare, wife Louisa, and daughter alta Blanche. Louisa (stern) Hare is Mary (Stern) Bachert's sister (Fifth child of Samuel Stern and Highly Jane Dean).
