Craven, Marian Davies Sterling
NAXERA - Marian Davies Sterling Craven, 80, born Oct. 6, 1925, to Noah and Martha Deal Sterling, died June 9, 2006. Marian was employed by the Naval Weapons Station, Ordnance Department, for 23 years before retiring. She was a member of Severn Presbyterian Church and mother of the late Paul O. Craven III. She was also preceded in death by her twin sister, Ilda Avis Sterling, and sisters, Gladys Seawell, Kathleen and Dorothy Gardner, as well as brothers, Raymond and Curtis Sterling. Survivors include her niece and caregiver for more than 15 years, Frances Seawell Simmons; three grandchildren, Paul O. Craven IV and wife, Kimberly, of Newport News, Va., Ryan Craven and wife, Michelle, of Kodiak, Alaska, and Adam Craven and wife, Katie, of Bangor, Maine; and 10 great-grandchildren. Graveside services, conducted by the Rev. Timothy B. Kirby Sr., will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Severn Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Contributions to honor her memory may be made to Severn Presbyterian Church, 9066 Robins Neck Road, Gloucester, VA 23061. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Mary Lewis and Pat Jones for their kindness and compassion given to Mrs. Craven.
