|Death: ||Dec. 2, 1902|
The death of Miss Eka A. Sterling, whose illness was mentioned last week, occurred Tuesday, December 2nd, at St. Luke's hospital, St. Paul, where she had underwent an operation the week previous. She had not enjoyed good health for over a year and spent the winter in California in the hope of regaining her health. Upon her return last May she submitted to surgical treatment for kidney affliction, from which it was expected ultimate recovery was probable, but the case became more aggravated, nd a few days ago upon the advice of the hospital surgeons she underwent second operation for the removal of the kidney that was affected with consumption. From this it was not believed she could recover but further surgical treatment was resorted to in the hope of saving her life, and although the best medical care was administered, after a week passed with no change for the better, she relapsed into eternal sleep at noon December 2nd. The remains were brought here Tuesday evening for interment, and the funeral service were conducted by Rev. Crickmer at the Episcopal church, Thursday afternoon.
The deceased had grown to womanhood in the locality, having been born at the old home north of town on February 22nd, 1874, and was in her twenty-ninth year. It is sad indeed for those who have known Ekie from childhood, to realize that death has thus abruptly ended a young life when the future seemed the brightest, and her friends wish to remember her as not dead, but resting.
