Born in the town that bears her family's name of Stephens City, VA (formerly Stephensburg and Newtown), Amanda's great grandfather, Peter Stephens was part of the first 16 families to settle in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. The party was led from the Skippack region of PA in 1731 by her great great grandfather, Jost Hite(Heydt), who had a large land grant in the northern neck of VA.
Her parents, Brian Martin Stephens and Emma Simms were the last of the Stephens pioneers to raise their 15 children in Stephens City.
