Mary Josephine Hipkins, 85, LaBelle, died Tuesday, September 26, 2000, in the LaBelle Manor Care Center in LaBelle. Born October 14, 1914 in Stone City, Kansas, she was the daughter of Anton and Anna Bednick Steffler. She married Theodore Roosevelt Hipkins in January of 1945. He died June 25, 1990. Mrs. Hipkins and her husband farmed near Philadelphia for many years where she enjoyed gardening and was specially fond of cats. After their retirement they moved to LaBelle. She enjoyed visiting with her neighbors and always had some candy on hand to give to them. Survivors include one brother, Tony Steffler, Detroit, Mich.; three sisters Mrs. Ann Jacklick, Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. Margaret Obed, Detroit, Mich.; and Evelyn Stephens, Inkster, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, September 27, 2000 at the Philadelphia Cemetery at Philadelphia with the Rev. Mike Rash officiating. Visitation was held from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 27, at the Coder Chapel in LaBelle. Memorials may be made to the LaBelle Manor Care Center or the American Heart Association in memory of Mary J. Hipkins. Memorials may be left or mailed to Coder Funeral Chapel, P. O. Box 151, LaBelle, MO 63447.
