Dorothy Mollie Steele, age 89 passed away Saturday June 20, 2009 in Kirkland, Washington. She was born on March 27th, 1920 in Hope, North Dakota to Andrew and Augusta Nygaard. She graduated from Hope High School in June 1938 as an honor student.

After graduating, Dorothy moved to Ellensburg, Washington and lived with her Aunt. Working as a waitress at a local 'hip' diner, she caught the eye of former coal miner turned grocer named Albert Mitchell Steele II. They were married on August 17th, 1941 at First Lutheran church in Ellensburg Washington.

After living briefly in Walla Walla, the family moved to Tacoma where Dorothy worked at a meat packing plant. The family moved to Columbia Falls, Montana where her husband worked as a supervisor at the Anaconda Aluminum Factory.

After her children left for college, she worked as a dental hygienist for many years before moving to Seattle, Washington. An avid gardener and seamstress, she continued to tend and care for her garden and sew her outfits until well into her seventies. She is survived by her daughter, Penny A. Steele of Kirkland, WA and her son, Albert (Carol) Steele, of Stockton, CA. She was a loving and splendid grandmother to her grandchildren Archie (Alice), Alvin (Patty), and Kelly (Ben) Steele-Willis Stockton; CA and Denise Ure, George A. Ure II & Allison Ure, all of Seattle; WA, and great grandchildren Michael & Cymbrie Lynn Steele. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 8th, at Washelli Funeral Home at 12:00 P. M. at 11111 Aurora Ave, Seattle, WA. The place of interment will be Brier, Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations please be made in her name to Pasado's Safe Haven www.pasadosafehaven.org and Doctors Without Borders, www.doctorswithoutborders.org.

The internment will follow the service at 3 PM at Abbieview Cemetery in Brier. The reception will take place immediately after the internment at her daughter's residence at 9405 NE 139th St, Kirkland, Washington, 98034. Please call 425-823-0250 for more information.
