SHAWNEE RITES ARE PENDING FOR VICTIM OF PLANE CRASH
SHAWNEE, July 18, 1947 - (Special) - The body of Lieut. Roger Dennis Steed, 22, USMC, who was killed in a plane crash near Tientsin, China, May 24, is expected here from San Francisco Friday.
Lieutenant Steed is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Steed of Shawnee. The body is being escorted here by Lieut. Gail A. Newkirk, member of the unit in which Steed served. A Shawnee high school graduate with the class of 1942, young Steed was commissioned in the marine air corps in December, 1945, at Jacksonville, Fla., after training at Louisiana State normal, Texas Christian university, the University of George, at Memphis, Tenn., and Corpus Christi.
Surviving besides the parents are one brother, Richard, both grandfathers, W.H. Steed of Ada and Hugh Bennett of Mountain Home, Ark., and one grandmother, Mrs. Dora Bennett of Muskogee.
