Lieut Enos S Stedman Steadman

Death: Dec., 1864

Sgt. Enos S. Steadman (Stedman) of Unadilla, Livingston County, enlisted in Co. B. of the 26th Michigan on August 6, 1862, at the age of 28. He was taken prisoner at 2nd Deep Bottom on August 16, 1864. He was supposedly listed in Belle Isle Prison at Richmond, Virginia on October 4, 1864. A service record in the State Archives of Michigan notes that he had been appointed to 2nd Lieutenant, 29th U.S. Colored Troops (from May 17, 1865), but never joined (Mustered). The 1905 Michigan Brown Book records list that he died of starvation while a prisoner at Salisbury, North Carolina on December 12, 1864. A Salisbury Prison record noted E.S. Stedman Co. B. 26th Mich. Died 12-15.

26th Michigan service included: Camp Jackson, Alexandria, Washington, Suffolk, the New York Draft Riots, Mine Run, Wilderness, Po River, Spotsylvania, North Anna, Totopotomoy, Cold Harbor, Petersburg including Deep Bottom, & Ream's Station
