Albert Start was the son of Solomon and Elmira A. Start.
According to family legend, Elmira was an American Indian, tribe unknown.

Albert Start married Rosa Simpson November 9th,1864 in the Calvary Chapel , 220 E. 23rd St. between 2nd and 3rd Ave. NY

They had 11 children, 7 living children: Emily; Anna; Robert; Edward; Alice Lillian and Aletta [Allie] Start.
Frank, youngest son of Solomon and Elmira, lived with Albert at one time.

He was a Navy veteran of the Civil War. Albert Start, Lds, enlisted August 1, 1862 and served on the USS "N.Caro"; "QuakerCity"; "Wissahickon"; "Rescue"; "Vermont" and discharged from the "USS Princeton" on August 4, 1863 according to Treasury Dept. Auditor's Office, Naval Service.

According to the 1880 U.S. Census, he was 38 yrs. old, a Float Capt. RR, married. Both parents born in NY

He was employed as a doorman at a Police Station.

He sustained a broken knee cap and Inflamatory Rheumatism contracted during Naval service according to Pension Declaration.
