Laura Starr was the daughter of Tom Starr, Jr. and Clarissa Autrey, and twin sister to Rachel Starr Patterson. If anyone has a picture of Laura, her biographers would be grateful. She was born in Indian Territory in Eastern Oklahoma, and she is listed on the Dawes Roll as 1/4 Cherokee and born in 1896. Her first marriage certificate in 1915 states her age as 21, placing her birth in 1894. Her marker reads differently. Her first husband was John Newton McDaniel by whom she had seven children, six of whom are now deceased: Jack, Earl "Dan", Lucille Hazel McDaniel Walker, Dollie Desoto McDaniel Howard, Eugene Francis and Albert Thomas. She has one living daughter by John McDaniel and another living daughter by her second husband, Charles W. Kay. The names of those children are withheld to protect their privacy. Laura was the granddaughter of "Old" Tom Starr whose father, James, signed the Treaty of the New Echota which led to the forced relocation of the Cherokee from the eastern US to what is now Oklahoma. Subsequent to Laura's divorce from John Newton McDaniel, Laura was not in close contact with her siblings or most of her children by John, and it has therefore been difficult to collect much biographical information on her. Any information interested parties can contribute would be greatly appreciated.
