Doris Gibson, 82, of Hooker, died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998 at Edwards County Hospital in Kinsley, Kansas.
Born Nov. 1, 1915 tn Lebanon, Kansas to Burley Andrew and Lena Elva Simmons Starr, she moved with the family to the Adams area July 9, 1920.
She attended the OK School and graduated from Adams High School in 1934. In 1939 she earned her Bachelor os Science in education for home economics from Panhandle A&M in Goodwell.
When World War II began she moved to Wichita, Kansas and worked in the defense plant two years before moving to Oklahoma City to continue her defense work until the end of the war.
She moved to Tyrone where she taught school before teaching in Goltry where she also worked summers on her Masters Degree at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater.
July 2, 1946 she married C.L. "Hoot" Gibson in Dodge City, Kansas and the couple made Hooker their home since. He preceded her in death July 29, 1992. Also preceding her in death are her parents and one brother, Russell Starr.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hooker.
Survivors include her sons, Terry Lee Gibson of Las Vegas, Nev., Stanley Thomas Gibson of Hooker and Jackie Devon Gibson and wife, Dottie of Tyrone; her sister, Thelma Mendenhall of Baker; five grandchildren, Todd, Lindy, Travis, Tia and Heather; and five great grandchildren, Kristina, Chase, Taylor, Lane and Alexandra.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 3 at the First Baptist Church in Hooker with the Rev. Lloyd Riddles of the Sunset Land Baptist Church in Guymon officiating.
