CANADA, LULA IRENE STARLEY, was born March 11, 1914 in Christmas, FL and died December 19, 2004. "Miss Irene" as she was known to her customers, managed the Idle Hour Fish Camp in the 1960's and 1970's . Her customers came from all walks of life and were very loyal and loving to her before becoming the manager. She also, for a time, worked at the Midway Fish Camp. Both of them are in Christmas, on Hwy. 50. Later, she owned a fresh seafood market in Mims. She had a hunting camp in Farmton for about 50 years. She taught her children and grandchildren to hunt and fish, and if you took something from the land, you had to clean it yourself, and one should never take more than you needed. Earlier in life she was a seamstress, which enabled her to raise her four children after her husband died at an early age. Her father's mother was full Creek Indian, which she was very proud of. Her mother's family is from the Osteen/Coward families. Her husband's family was also Creek Indian with ties to Chief Osceola. She always supported her grandchildren in anything that they were involved in and at the age of 85 she became a Citrus Council Girl Scout in Troop 1008. This was a Troop of cousins and had five generations of members. She was preceded in death by her parents Robert (Bob) and Lillie (Coward) Starley; her husband James (Kip) Canada and son Virgil Canada. She is survived by her daughters, Maxine Knott of Christmas, FL, Dody Rinaldi of New Port Richey, FL; son Ernest Canada of Orange Park, FL; 21 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and 35 great great grandchildren. Five generations were abundant for the family. Services will be held on Thursday, December 23rd at 3PM at the Christmas Cemetery Chapel with a viewing preceding at 2PM.
