Jean Starkweather Ketchum, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, teacher and friend, was born in Bronx, NY, February 5, 1926. She passed suddenly in The Villages on May 27, 2014.

Jean married Frederick Ketchum when he returned from the Navy after WWII in 1948. She started a family, earned her Master's from Columbia, and taught 40 years (mostly in the Miami Gifted Programs). She said, "I got my first teaching job because I could play the piano." Many happy years were spent teaching and directing musical plays at Coral Way, West Laboratory, Coral Gables and Sunset Elementary Schools.

Jean would cheerfully break into song any time and loved the Sweet Adelines. She also loved the beach, sailing and traveling. Fred often said, "Nobody doesn't love Jean." She always thought of others and was generous to family and friends.

Survived by her husband of 66 years and daughters Janice (husband Rick) Piedra of Sarasota and Jennifer Slayton (Gary Hanbaum) of Indialantic; 4 grandchildren Trevor (Tara) Piedra, Cassandra Piedra, Michael Slayton and Jessica Slayton.

Jean, all our love to you, everyday remembering your smile, until we're together again.

Condolences can be sent to the family at 17072 SE 80th
Locustwood Court, The Villages, FL 32162. A graveside service will be held in July in New York.
