Sarah Foster, 86, of Sanford died Tuesday January 8, 2002 at the Newton Ctr. in Sanford.
Mrs. Foster was born on February 9, 1915 in N. Berwick, ME. She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Mildred (Eye) Staples. Sarah was adopted at a young age by her Aunt and Uncle, William and Anna (Staples) Cole after her parents passed away at a young age. She attended N. Berwick schools and in 1938 she was married to Benjaman F. Foster. They shared 51 years of marriage together until his passing in 1989.
For over 40 years Mrs. Foster worked as a spinner in the Sanford textile mills. After retiring from the mills Mr. And Mrs. Foster traveled the U.S. and Canada in their recreational vehicle.
She was a member and past Ceres of Bauneg Beg Grange # 382, a member and past Pomona of York County Pomona, and a sixth degree member of the State Grange. Mrs. Foster attended the Sanford Baptist Church and enjoyed crocheting.
She is survived by a daughter Rebecca (Arthur) Downing of Sanford; two sons, David of Arizona, Donald of Washington, 8 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
