Florence Adaline Bender
Coolspring Twp. woman was avid traveler, homemaker
Florence Adaline Bender, Coolspring Township, formerly of East Water Street, Slippery Rock, and Jamestown, N.Y., died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, in Woodland Place, Coolspring Township, after a short illness. She was 96.
Mrs. Bender was born Aug. 19, 1905, in Jamestown to Robert Leslie Stanton and Laura "Doll" Luella Gordon Stanton.
As a member for more than 50 years of Stillwater United Methodist Church in Jamestown, she had previously been an active member of the church choir; and belonged to the Sacajawea Sunday School Class and the church United Methodist Women.
She had formerly been active in the 4Bs square dancing group; and the Senior Citizens Bowling Group, both Jamestown.
She was a former member of the Board of Elections in Kiantone, N.Y.
A homemaker, she was an avid traveler and twice visited the Holy Lands, having been baptized in the River Jordan.
Her husband, Clifford Lewis Bender, whom she married Nov. 15, 1927, died Oct. 22, 1970.
Surviving are: two daughters, Mrs. Theodore (Barbara) Walwik, Slippery Rock; and Elaine Linder, Mercer; one son, C. Earl Bender, Medina, Ohio; one sister, Ruby Brady, Randolph, N.Y.; 15 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Leslie Bender; an infant daughter, Alicia Claire; four brothers, William "Will" Stanton; and Floyd, Robert and Charles Stanton; and five sisters, Luella Olsen, Iva Livermore, Evelyn Furteck, Margaret Valle and Ruth Stanton.

Calling hours: 2 p.m. to time of memorial service Sunday (8-11-02) in SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.
Service: Memorial service at 3 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home, with the Rev. Dr. Theodore Walwik, deceased's son-in-law and assistant pastor of Lely Presbyterian church, Naples, Fla.; the Rev. Phillip H. Chalfant, pastor of Coolspring Presbyterian Church, Fairview Township; and the Rev. James Lewis, pastor of Branchton (Pa.) United Methodist Church, officiating. Service will also be held at 11 a.m. Monday (8-12-02) in Stillwater United Methodist Church, Falconer-Stillwater Road, Chatauqua County, N.Y., with the Rev. Gerald Lundeen, retired pastor, officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:30 a.m. to time of service Monday.
Interment: Pine Grove Cemetery, Warren County.
