He retired in February 1984 after thirty-nine years of service with Lone Star Gas Company. He worked for one and one-half years for Lone Star Producing Company and thirty-seven and one-half years for Lone Star Gas Company as a Field Representative and as Manager of three different districts in Texas and Oklahoma. During this time he was a member of the Southwestern Oklahoma Oil and Gas Association where he was Chairman of the Membership Committee. He also held memberships in the South Texas Oil and Gas Association and the West Central Texas Oil and Gas Association. In 1986, Mr. Stansell was recognized as Zone Four Conservation Farmer of the Year by the Upper Leon Soil and Water Conservation District at their 14th annual conservation awards banquet. He was also a member of the Duncan, Oklahoma, High School Athletic Club for many years.
Mr. Stansell was survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Louise; four children and their spouses,, Bill and Lana Barclay of Aledo, TX; Laura and Jim Reinbolt of Aspermont, TX; Linda and Terry Stafford of Beggs, OK., and Lewis and Marsha Stansell of Midlothian, TX. He was also survived by six grandchildren, Todd Barclay, Lance Barclay, Traci Cottrell, Tiffany Reinbolt, Kris Stansell and Marie Stansell; four step-grandchildren, Matt and Alec Stafford and Brett and Cameron Grant; and two great-grandchildren, Riley Cottrell and Emma Barclay.
