Wanda Stanger Dopp

SYRACUSE – Our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend passed away Sunday, January 25, 2009 at a local hospital.

She was born January 12, 1919 in American Falls, Idaho to Don Carlos and Marie Wright Stanger.

Wanda married Carl H. Dopp on July 30, 1938 in Brigham City. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on April 7, 1955. He died October 5, 1981.

She spent her girlhood in Ogden. She shared the old family home on Union Avenue with six brothers and two sisters. Times were difficult during the depression years but it taught Mom lessons in thrift and determination which would serve her well for her entire life.

She attended the Ogden City Schools – Pingree Elementary, Washington Junior High and graduated from Ogden High School in 1937. She placed great importance on education and realized a lifetime dream when she graduated from Weber State College with a nursing degree in 1969.

Wanda was the supervisor of the School Lunch program at Pingree Elementary School for several years. Following her college graduation she worked as a registered nurse at McKay-Dee Hospital. After her retirement from nursing she began volunteer service for Ogden City Schools teaching English and reading. She was recognized with a Governor's Award after almost 30 years of volunteering.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings during her lifetime.

Wanda loved to do handwork and delighted in crocheting baby booties, bibs and other things for her grandchildren and many of her great-grandchildren. She was an avid reader who read two to three books a week until just a few months ago. She loved being with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Wanda leaves three children, Karen Carlene Cardon, Kaysville; Bruce (Marlene) Dopp, Syracuse; Marie Renteria, Ogden; nine grandchildren, Rick Cardon, Michelle Crane, and Scott (Circe) Dopp, all of Kaysville; Ryan (Jennie) Dopp, Layton; Jeremy (Jenny) Dopp, Syracuse; Jeff (Richelle) Dopp, Layton; Nichole (Clint) Taylor, Syracuse; Nicholas Sierra and Brenna Sierra, both of Rialto, CA; and 19 great-grandchildren with one on the way.

Also surviving are her brothers, LaVor (Marian) Stanger and Wayne (Colleen) Stanger; and sisters-in-law, Vama Stanger and Grace Dopp.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, her parents, two sisters, Ella and Velda, and four brothers, Gerald, Dean, Don and Cyril.
