|Birth: ||Nov. 24, 1900|
|Death: ||Feb. 11, 1991|
Born to Thomas Barnett and Mary Jane (Hiatt) Stanford in a logging camp (Chenowith area) along the Columbia River across from The Dalles, OR...Wife of Alfred Ernest Scheuch...Sister of Roy, Delbert, Mabel, Ethel, Eva, Ada, Sadie Leone (all dec'd at the time of her death), T. Fernie & L. Blanche.
Aunt Mae lived most of her life as a farm wife. She did just about everything you can do on a farm. They owned about 32 acres of fruit (mostly prunes, plums & apples, but a few pears, peaches & cheeries) trees and also had a small herd (20-40) head of cattle and chickens.
She was born with one of her feet turned backwards. Doctors in those days not knowing much, broke the bone, turned the foot around and let it heal. Although, the foot was at an awkward angle it never stopped her from running and playing as other children do. I remember many times in the late summer evening she would go outside and play ball with me. She'd throw it, I'd hit it and run and she'd chase the ball! I had a blast, but now that I'm older don't know as she thought it was as much fun as I did.
I spent many summer days at their home, while my parents worked. I wasn't much interested in taking naps, so Aunt Mae, would lay down with me on the couch to take a nap, too. To get me to go to sleep we would play 'Guess what I see'. The object of the game is to guess what the other person sees in the room and the opponnent says either warm, cold, colder, etc to guide the person to the object. Well, I'd fall asleep and then I think she got back up and went to work again! When I woke up, she wasn't there!
I have many fun and happy memories of my Mother's sister, also known as Aunt Mae.
