Shelton Woman is Called By Death
Mrs. T. F. Allen Died Following Brief Illness
Had been Resident of this Community Forty-Four Years — Funeral was held Sunday
Mrs. Theron F. Allen, a well known and highly respected woman of Shelton, died at her home here Friday morning about eleven o'clock following a brief illness. Mrs. Allen had apparently enjoyed good health up until eight days before her demise. She was taken ill two weeks ago and pneumonia developed which finally resulted in her death, the end coming very unexpectedly, and it was a sudden blow to the family and friends.
Ellen M. Stall was born at Skien, Norway, March 15, 1848, and was 74 years, 6 months and 28 days old at the time of her death. At the age of seven she came to America with her parents, who located in Illinois, where she spent her girlhood days. She was united in marriage to Theron F. Allen at Belvidere, Illinois, on November 17, 1870, and to this union six children were born, four sons and two daughters. One son, George, died in infancy, and the surviving children who together with the father are left to mourn, follow: Albert of Shelton, Frank of Santa Barbara, California, Edgar of Lisco, Nebraska, Mrs. S. P. Ashton of Shelton and Mrs. Walter Schepers of Anselmo, Nebraska.
In the year of 1870 Mr. and Mrs. Allen went to Girard, Pennsylvania, where they remained until 1878 when they removed to Nebraska. Mr. Allen purchased land southwest of Shelton where they lived and reared their children and where they continued to reside until 1915 when they moved to Shelton. Since taking up their residence in town seven years ago they have been living a retired life.
Mrs. Allen was a woman who enjoyed home life and was greatly devoted to her family. She united with the Evangelical Lutheran church early in life but since coming here she attended other churches in the community. Although Mr. and Mrs. Allen were not among the pioneer settlers, they came to this county in and early day, and experienced many hardships before the rural districts became thickly populated.
Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock and were largely attended. The services were conducted by Rev. E. A. Wilson, the local pastor. The pallbearers were: George A. Hauke, John Oliver, W. E. Oliver, Sam Druse, B. F. Parks and C. S. Smith. Following the services at the church internment took place in the Shelton cemetery.
Relatives in attendance at the funeral from a distance were: Hans Stall, a brother of Jackson, Minnesota, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Allen of Santa Barbara, California, Edgar Allen of Lisco and Mr. and Mrs. Walter L. Schepers and son Carl of Anselmo. Another brother, Oliver Stall who lives at Jackson was unable to attend.
