Evening Times, Cumberland, Maryland, Sat 29 Apr 1905: "PEKIN-Pretty Wedding at Barton-St. Gabriel's church, Barton, was the scene of a very pretty wedding on Thursday evening. The contracting parties were Mr. Thomas Stakem, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Stakem, of Lonaconing, and Miss Eliza Mullen, of this place. Shortly after four o'clock the wedding party entered the church to the beautiful strains of Mendelssohn wedding march, played by Miss Nellie McCabe, and were met at the altar by Rev. Father Conway, who quickly tied the nuptial knot. After the ceremony was performed the happy couple drove to the home of the bride, where a most sumptuous repast was served. The bride wore a handsome gown of white silk with hat and gloves to match and carried a shower bouquet of bride's roses. The bridesmaid, Miss Maggie Stakem, wore a dress of cream silk and carried pink carnations. The groom and his attendant, Mr. Joseph Mullen, wore the usual conventional black. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Mullen and is one of the town's most popular young ladies and until very recently was employed as saleslady in J. J. Winn's store of this place. The groom is a successful tailor of Midland. Mr. and Mrs. Stakem will make Midland their future home. The wedding presents were both numerous and handsome. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Monahan, Ocean, Mr. and Mrs. M. Clupp, Midland, Mr. and Mrs. T. Stakem, Mr. and Mrs. John (unreadable), Mr. and Mrs. Richard Stakem, Misses Laura Sweeney, Mary Cavanaugh, Nellie and Katie Martin, Clara, Maggie and Christina Ricker, Thomas Mullen, Isaac and Daniel Stakem, all of Lonaconing; Mr. and Mrs. N.
