Daughter of Civil War vet dies
SAN LORENZO-Mrs. Mabel M. Christoffersen, daughter of a Civil War veteran, died yesterday.
Her father, the late John L. Stagg, was a member of the Union Army and fought at Gettysburg, Harper's Ferry, and in Gen. William T. Sherman's famous march through Atlanta, Ga. He enlisted in Trenton, NJ when he was not quite 16.
Mrs. Christoffersen, a resident for close to 20 years, was 92 and the widow of Walter Christoffersen.
Her daughter, Mrs. Avis E. Richardson of San Lorenzo survives along with her granddaughters, Mrs. Sharon Fey and Mrs. Patricia Santos both of Hayward and Mrs Colleen Ibde of Dublin.
She leaves nine great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren, and a sister Mrs. Ethel Andrews of Portland Ore.
A native of Michigan, Mrs. Christoffersen was a charter member of Clara Barton Tent No. 4 of Astoria, Ore, and a member of Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, 1861-1865, an organization for daughters and direct descendants of Union veterans.
Services will be held tomorrow at 1:30 p.m at Sorensen Brothers Chapel, 1140 B Street, Hayward with burial at Lone Tree Cemetery, Hayward.
