Joe was born on August 7, 1935 in Green Township, the son of the late Lonnie D. St John and Edith Mae (Musgrave) Fendley St John.
On May 15, 1959 he married Donna Sarber. She survives in Martinsville.
He was a 1953 graduate of Martinsville High School and received his associate's degree in Electrical Engineering from Ivy Tech. He also took classes at I.U.P.U.I. in Indianapolis.
He was a U.S. Naval Reserve veteran and past president and lifetime member of the Indiana Hospital Engineers Association.
He retired from the Morgan Hospital and Medical Center in 2005 as Chief Engineer after 47 years of employment.
He was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed collecting sea shells, playing croquet, gardening, mushroom hunting and especially time spent with his family.
He is survived by his wife; 2 sons, Mark D. St John of Mooresville and Jeffrey D. St John of Martinsville; daughter, Vicki J. Lilly of Martinsville; 4 grandchildren, Matthew M., Jennifer S., Devon B. and Eric T. St John; and one sister, Martha Fowler Milam of Edinburgh, IN.
He was preceded in death by 6 half brothers, John & Raymond Fendley, Dale, Robert, Glenn and Lennis St John and 2 half sisters, Lenora Brown and Mildred Adkins Sanders.
Rev. Randy Weddle will conduct a celebration of life service on Friday, October 3, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Neal & Summers Mortuary. Burial will follow in Centennial Cemetery in Martinsville.
