Thelma Sproul Baker, 97, of Bristol, passed away Oct. 27 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 27, 1912, she was the only child of Elroy and Josephine (Butman) Sproul.
Thelma graduated from Bristol High School and went on to pursue a teaching degree at the Gorham Normal School. Thelma spent 37 years as a teacher in several Lincoln County schools, where she was known as a wonderful person and teacher.
She married Philip O. Baker of Somerville, Mass., and Pemaquid Harbor. They had two children, Carol Baker Joyal and Philip L. Baker.
Thelma was a longtime President of the Bristol Bridge Club, and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was an accomplished knitter and painter.
She was predeceased by her husband, Philip O. Baker.
Time of open casket visitation 12 - 12:30 p.m., Fri., Oct. 30 at the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta, continuing with closed casket visitation from 12:30 - 1 p.m. Service will follow at 1 p.m. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Bristol Mills Cemetery.
