SCRANTON: Mrs. Mary Caulder Sports, 93, wife of the late Reverend Willie Sports, died Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at Lake City Scranton Healthcare after an illness.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 3:00 P.M., Saturday, December 7, 2013, at Carolina Funeral Home with services immediately following at 3:00 P.M. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Camp Branch Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Sports was born April 17, 1920, in Lumberton, North Carolina, daughter of the late Hasty Caulder and Frances Roberts Caulder. She was a member of Camp Branch Pentecostal Holiness Church and the Adult Bible Class. Mrs. Sports loved to fish and play Scrabble. She was loved and adored by family and friends everywhere and will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved her. Mrs. Sports and the Reverend Willie Sports were married for 72 ½ years before his death in June of 2009.
Surviving are two daughters, Judy S. (John) Paletta and Estelle S. (John) Ridzelski, both of Meridianville, Alabama; 13 grandchildren; a host of great and great, great-grandchildren of many cultures; beloved friend, Maurice Weaver of Lake City; and good friend, Louise Davis of Scranton. Mrs. Sports was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Peters, and a son, Willie S. Sports.
The family would like to express their love and appreciation to the staff and faculty of Lake City Scranton Healthcare for the love and concern given to Mrs. Sports and her family during this time.
