Hazel Spiggle Parrish, 99, formerly of Front Royal, Virginia, died Monday, March 11, 2013 in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Hazel was born in Shenandoah County, Virginia on July 25, 1913. She attended the Medical College of Virginia School of Nursing. Hazel married right after nursing school to Carl Russell Parrish. They were married over 50 yearsand had one daughter, Suzanne. In 1959, the family moved to Front Royal, Virginia where Carl became administrator of Warren Memorial Hospital. Hazel was an energetic volunteer in Front Royal and a member of the Front Royal Methodist Church.
At age 89, widowed nearly 20 years, she chose to move to Atlanta, Georgia to be with her daughter and immediately looked for ways to volunteer in her church and community.
She moved with her family to Santa Fe, New Mexico at the age of 95.
She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Gebhart Lawrence; Dick Lawrence her son-in-law; and her grandchildren, Skyler Gebhart and Douglas Gebhart.
A memorial service will be held at St. Bede's Episcopal Church in Santa Fe on Tuesday, March 19, 11am. Internment will be at the Valley Pike Church, Toms Brook, Virginia, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to St Bede's Episcopal Church, 1601 South St. Francis Drive, Santa Fe, NM 87505.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
