"Assistant Commissioner, Louisiana Office of Conservation, Col. Fritz Leland Spencer, Jr. (U.S. Army Retired) died March 10, 1996 at his residence in Baton Rouge. He was 72 and a native of Doyline, LA. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he received a battlefield commission and retired in 1976 as Comander, 1190th HRP, U.S. Army Reserve. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, two sons, a sister and six grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, Fritz Leland Spencer, Sr. and Etta Zeola Kirkley Spencer. He received a bachelor of science degree in political science in 1947 from LSU, where he lettered two years in baseball. He was a longtime member of Sherwood Forest Country Club."
